The leads are Rene Kollo and Gwyneth Jones, who are both way, way, way beyond their best voice, but who nevertheless give a lesson in beautiful singing. Of course you have to have know and like their voices when they were in their prime (so that you can sort of extrapolate from the 'old' voices on this recording), but the Liebestod is still magnificent + Jones produces pianissimi that many sopranos were not even able to do in their prime (note esp. here perfectly pitched vibrato-less pp final note, coming from a still impressive forte on the top notes).
