Posted by Robert Storm Kempe: My personal favorite, Das Rheingold is the best part of Kempe's Ring. Great Wotan, Loge and Alberich (Uhde, Stolze and Kraus). Some of the minor parts are not quite as good. Knappertsbusch 1958: Some may consider Kna's conducting too heavyweight for this opera but I like it very much. Fritz Uhl is a wonderful Loge. Some great singers in minor roles (Konya, Stolze, Grümmer). Moralt: Worth hearing especially for Pölzer's Loge and Vogel's Alberich. The other parts of this Ring are even better. Boulez (DVD): In my opinion the best directed part of this Ring. Zednik is wonderful as Loge.
