I remember reading a review about it in a German opera magazine(Opernwelt or Opernglas) and following that review Terfel was the only soloist mentioned as fine singer. Well, I can`t say... but we have Hans Hotter, George London, James Morris, Thomas Stewart, Tomlinson,and many remarkable singers with quite different voices and grasp of that role...enough to study for years
