I have heard the "Fliedermonolog" performed on an event for german television- very impressive- a better german pronounciation than some nativ-german singers(no joke, even though it should be)What can be said is that Terfel is great in displaying his qualities in excerpts and he has a wonderful voice with a rich lyrical legato and considerable volume. I am not sure though if he is ready for such a complex task as is the Wotan, vocally maybe but there is more to this role. He now will give his Holländer-Debut on stage( I mean as complete opera performance, because he sang the introducing Holländer-Monolog before and recorded it twice w/Levine and Abbado)Maybe this will give more hint. What is the most remarkable performance to me is his Jochanaan in R.Strauss Salome w/Dohnanyi(A London 1997 performance also kept on DVD at Decca) I will always remember this outstanding night.
