The Karajan Parsifal was the first on cd for me and although I like it, it is not my favorite. The high point is Kurt Moll and Peter Hofmann does put in a solid performance, if you can get over his odd technique. Jose Van Dam, while a great artist, just doesn't seem to be in much anguish. The sound of the set is sumptuous, if a bit mannered (classic Karajan engineering, good or bad). The Boulez is an entirely different kettle of fish and can be profound in its own way. If your choice is between only these two, then I'd say go with the Karajan. The set is worth it if for only Moll alone.
