It's roughly the same cast and with similar sound quality as the roughly contemporaneous Knappertsbusch 1951 recording but with the splendid (IMHO)and energetic Ramon Vinay in the title role, though he's not everyone's taste. It's not quite as reverential as the Kna but is a worthy addition to any collection (particularly as it is inexpensive (try the Cantus issue).
