I just heard that the Finnish bass Heikki Toivanen died on Friday. He sang the roles of Fasolt and Titurel at Bayreuth in the late 70's. He also sang many other Wagner, mostly in Karlsruhe. I knew him though not very well. What makes his death even more shocking to me is that I sent him an e-mail the very day he died. I had one question to ask and I also invited him to see a presentation I'm going to give in November. I was waiting for his reply and wondered if I should call him.
