Ingrid Bjoner, the perfect norwegian soprano has died 4 october, 78 years old. I met her in Hamburg 1973 after a performance of Die Walküre, where she sung Sieglinde and Birgit Nilsson Brünnhilde. She had a beautiful and strong soprano well shaped to match Nilsson. She also was a delightful, friendly person.
What a year this has been. Nilsson, James King, Varnay, Stewart. And what a generation that was. Who´s next?
