When he tackled Siegmund with Barenboim and Dohnanyi, he had only made the transition from baritone 1 or 2 years before, so he sounded very constricted above F#...his Parsifals (Sinopoli and barenboim) have the same problem, and he was only able to vaguely manage both roles because both are so low (Siegmund has only one High A, Parsifal 2...). As for the other roles, he probably never has sung them, however powerful his voice might have been (at least, at the baritone's register ones).
Since I've seen him live at both roles, I'm not judging from fake-stereo perpectives
