Posted by Richard Ely A lot of people criticise Rene Kollo but I think he's a lot better than his reputation suggests and he's left us some fine recordings. Windgassen certainly had the intelligence to be a good Wagner tenor, but he often sounded tired...certainly in his later recordings. Melchior probably had the best 'voice' of all of them, but I don't think he used it quite as well as Vickers.
