Posted by Robert Storm Günther Treptow. The only Siegfried who I really like in both operas. He had a strong and beautiful voice, more youthful than many Wagner tenore. Even though he too had a quite heavy voice, this youthfullness makes him a better Stolzing than Suthaus or Lorenz. The way he pronounces his vowels used to bother me a bit but not anymore. Gerhard Stolze. A wonderful Mime (especially on Kna 1958, not that much on Solti's studio recording), Loge (especially on the Kempe recording) and David. His Shepherd on Karajan Bayreuth Tristan is also my favorite performance of the role. I think his voice was quite beautiful in a strange way. Fritz Uhl. He probably should never have sung Tristan though I kind of enjoy the performance. But his devilish Loge is wonderful and he is great as Parsifal, Lohengrin and Siegmund. René Kollo. It's true that he was an uneven singer, especially in his later recordings. But on the Solti recording he is the best Tannhäuser I've heard. Maybe also the best Parsifal. Peter Seiffert. I just said that Kollo was the best Tannhäuser. But Seiffert may have been even better on the wonderful Met broadcast conducted by Mark Elder. Sandor Konya. Nobody sings Lohengrin as beautifully as he. Erik: Josef Traxel Link: My homepage

Jon Vickers. He didn't have a beautiful voice but he is always very dramatically involved. And though he had a big voice, he also knew how to sing softly. He was at his best as Tristan, Siegmund and Otello. But even his Parsifal is excellent though his voice may be a bit too heavy for the role.
