I forgot to mention THE Tannhäuser..Max Lorenz!
He has recorded for Basf, along with Margaret Bäumer, Karl Schidy -Walter et alli, conducted by Arthur Hotter some selections...and it is allthere!! Perfect enunciation, trombone like sound, perfect sense of rubato. "...Die Stätte, wo ich raste, ist verflucht! (low D#)" he sounds darker than any baritone who could ever sung the role
When he starts to sing ".ast du so böse Lust getan..." he sounds not like the pope, but like quoting an Avenging Angel himself..."...der böse Lust, die meine Sinn' empfanden,..." like a actually possesed creature...from."...Dahin zog's mich..." till the very end, he is desperation himself...but NEVER an ugly note comes out of his mouth, or a misplaced one...he doesen't squeeze, bark, discolour ANY sound, ne never whitens his voice to reach the high notes like Kollo or Windgassen, rather, they grow darker as he keeps going up, his ..."Elisabeth!" certainly was heard by her in heaven!
