I would advise you to stay away from the Mehta performance of Tristan. West is truly a horrible Tristan and the production is really bad. I would have tried the Met Tristan with Levine, Heppner and Eaglen instead. The production on the Levine performance is more sparse and symbolic but the performance itself is so much better than Mehta's. Heppner is a wonderful Tristan and Eaglen, even though she is a big woman, is also a really good Isolde. Levine's conducting is a bit slow, but not as slow as his Parsifal.
