If you want sponsors to pay for your race car (and your career), you have to be marketable on some level. What is there positive to market about him besides a slightly above average talent (for his level)?
A.J. Foyt was 10 times the a-hole that Busch has been, but he was: a) likeable; b) a real spokesman for the sport; c) A.J. Foyt - a living legend. Kurt is a drunk driving a-hole who most famous moment may be provoking a fight with a seriously overweight boorish (but likeable) driver and losing. Sad to say, but people forget that he even won a championship.
He's becoming a Dennis Rodman. Rodman was a big part of 5 different NBA championships with 2 different teams and yet all anyone remembers is the freak show he generates around him.
Who wants to sponsor a freak show?
