rubens and simona both couldn't get their cars started for whatever reason; that's got to crush them. all before the race they were talking about how dangerous it was and as much as i like townsend bell, for him to ask a driver "did you want to be here"? was ill-advised. that was the running theme of the pre-race and that can't help a series that is trying desperately to get it's mojo back. on espn's website they had a piece about how the statistics show indy to be way more dangerous. to top it off, for me anyway, was dario franchitti, one of the biggest critics of the place: a few laps in he developed 'handling problems' and just rode around miles an hour slower than the rest. how ironic.
