Julie is home in Medford by now, (that's Medford, WI, not OR), and I see by the postings that she's already on the website busily pecking away like the old hen she is, (hi, Jul!). I can't believe with that elephant memory of yours, you don't remember Turtle Slough! It was slightly north and west of my grandparents home, (Ted & Vera Schultz). It was an awesome place, meandering back from the main lake. It was sloughy, (is that a word?), and I always felt like I was cruising down the Amazon, as it had half fallen down trees filled with all sorts of cranes and herons, (Craig would have thought he died and went to heaven!), and logs and stumps erily protruding through the green murk like appendages from the Loch Ness monster or something, and they were loaded with hundreds of turtles ranging from tiny to almost man-eating size! We used to catch the little ones, put a dot of nail polish on their back and then release them so that when we came back at a later date we could identify them. I can't believe the DNR, (short for do nothing rapidly!), would allow that to be dredged to oblige the people that built around there. There were even bald eagles back there, back in the 60's and early 70's when they were few and far between thanks to the use of DDT. You must remember Turtle Slough!!!!
