Okay Guys,
OK-honest and truly that sliver probably wasn't the size of a banana, but I'll bet it was as big as my thumb! We were in maybe 4th or 5th grade, as it wasn't too long after the pencil incident. As I remember it, we were on our way to recess and were in that central, oldest part of the building right outside Mrs. Moe's room. Now there was a teacher I really liked. Remember how we would listen to those programs over public radio like "Let's Write" and something about music. I'll never forget the day we "went to the symphony" and all the boys were in dress shirts and the girls wore hats and gloves. Of course we were in dresses because that was the rule back in the day. Anyway, Mrs. Moe always had time, at least for me. Now Mrs. Switzenberg--I really think the only reason she had that job was because her nephew was the principal. Keith, you were so right that she did favor the boys over the girls with one exception. Between Mrs. Brown and her fingernail checks and Mrs. Switzenberg and her adoring looks at Sherry, those years for me were awful. Of course one could say they weren't improved much by the trio of Mrs. Hoople, Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Orn--remember her one blue and one brown eye? and how Mrs. Nelson always had her boobs wrapped into her belt!
