Thanks Jean. Chuck Olson and I had a nickname - "Bushel t*ts" She was a beast of a teacher. Mrs. Orn: I remember her announcing to the class that "I am a freak", and we all probably silently nodded in agreement even before she told us why. Always after that I made sure to take note of those weird looking eyes of hers. I actually liked her as a teacher, however. Anything was better than sitting all morning with Mrs. Nelson. At least she was fair (I thought). My brother Rick raised holy hell with her one year during the World Series (back when games were held during the day) when she discovered he had carved out a book so that he could insert a transistor radio inside and listen to the games during class. When Mrs. Orn told my mom about it with great indignation my mom asked what book it was, and when she found out Rick had taken some old book out of our attic Mom said something like, "Oh, that old thing." That took the wind out of Orn's sails. I suppose today that book would be some rare gem that Craig's bibliophile counterpart would travel thousands of miles to see. Anyone remember in 6th grade when Mrs. Bronson had each of us come to her desk so she could show use what happens to your teeth if you brush side-to-side rather than up and down? (She claimed that the 'scratches' on her teeth were caused by that malpractice). Mrs. Hoople: I absolutely loved her. After my humiliating experience of 7th grade she restored my self-confidence. Between her and the infamous Mr. Voskuil our freshman year I learned to diagram sentences to an inch within their lives. I had forgotten about Mrs. Brown's fingernail checks. I didn't have to go through that again until I got to Marine Corps boot camp.
