Posted by julie Jean, Art and Ragna had a bomb shelter?? No kidding? At the lake? What was it like? Keith mentioned the Cuban Missile Crisis....another distinct memory. My dad was in Philadelphia (an added worry) durng the whole ordeal. Mom let me sleep with her the night the culminating events unfolded. We listened to the radio in the dark as the Russian ship made its way toward Cuba. I remember the flood of relief when they backed down and turned their missile-laden ship around. I've always thought that was a defining moment for the Cold War era.

I laughed outloud at "every freakin' country in Central and South America had to have its own booklet!" Bushel Tits, huh, Keith?? Hysterical. Good old Mrs. Nelson. She was quite the piece of work.
That's where we were when Kennedy was shot. I distinctly recall Mrs. Moe coming in our classroom in tears, to make the announcement. Mrs. Booklet turned the TV on in our room so we could watch the commentaries. That's where my memory stops......until I got home. My dad and I were literally glued to the television for the next four days. In fact, I got to stay home with Dad from church that Sunday while Mom and Nancy went. I wonder how many people saw the "live murder" of Oswald by Jack Ruby. When Ruby stuck that gun in Oswald's stomach and pulled the trigger, Dad and I looked at each other in quizzical horror and said something like, "What just happened?" We couldn't believe out eyes. Every time that footage has been replayed over the years, I still shake my head in disbelief.
