Do enjoy an occassional return visit to beloved hometown, even if only through Alumni website. Always sift through message board for posted gems such as yours. Am a bit intrigued why someone would send you website when they had no idea you knew anything about Cameron. Kindly respond if you don't mind sharing.
Cross Roads Cafe and Pic-A-Chic both on east side of US HWY 53 (now SS), across from each other on old US HWY 8. Worked at Pic-A-Chic summer of 1966 but don't recall names of owners. Not sure year(s) your recalling but other restaurant(s) on HWY 53 located a block south and on west side. Originally a Root Beer Stand, (A&W or Rochester's?), in mid 60's was raised and replaced with Karlgaad's Restaurant which, in turn, changed ownersip a couple of times. Don't believe it's even a restaurant anymore. However, also on west side of 53, immediately north of Karlgaad's, a very small tavern was expanded and converted into a restaurant, (Cameron House?). Downtown Cameron also had a couple of restaurants on Main St, (HWY 8). While Cameron is still a small village it has always had a lot of character. If there was more than 3 of anything it was likely a church, restaurant, gas station, or tavern!
As for stereo/tv dealer you are probably thinking of Rathke TV. First experienced viewing color TV, (Howdie Dutie and Buffalo Bob), in window of his tiny shop. Yes, he did sell Grundigs.
Incidentally, my little brother had made a couple of blow guns out of tubular aluminum rods from an old tv antennae. Darts made of wooden golf tees and sewing needles. Due to expense tips of darts later fashioned from fish hooks. While not the mastermind behind mysterious disappearance of aluminum tubing from Rathke's premises, there was, nonethelesss, a brief appearance of aluminum blow guns on Cameron's black market!
Thanks for stopping to visit a spell.
