A trick to make the memory game MUCH easier: Run the game in a window (by pressing F4, and F5 to change the size of the window). At the same time, run Notepad. Whenever a character appears on the screen, click on Notepad and the game's action will pause. Then use Notepad to write down which character it was, and resume the game by clicking on its window.
The House on the Lake has six regions: two battle zones (Atlantis and Hourai), three puzzle zones (music, memory, and dodging robots), and the Garden, which has both battle and puzzle elements and is always the last one you'll enter. After you get one of the keys (by finishing a region), return to the lobby to find the band Suspension (from a cancelled Brasington RPG called "New Ordeals"). Not only will they join your party and make it full, but you can also control them in battle, unlike Spencer (who prefers to go his own way, like the original DW4's "uncontrolled characters").
The boss battles at the end of the Hourai and Atlantis regions are tough, and almost impossible if you don't have Suspension. So clear a puzzle area first. I recommend the memory game, which is easy if you use that trick I described. (Also, the Hourai boss is a bit easier than the Atlantis boss, since he doesn't paralyze you.)

: Ok so I've gotten to the House by the Lake and
: now find myself in a dungeon(I believe I
: took the one on the right) with insanely
: difficult puzzles and boss battles. So far
: I've been to the memory game and Atlantis
: one. The memory game I've gotten past the
: first three levels after many tries only to
: find that there's even more which I have no
: desire to do anymore after how insanely
: difficult the first three were. The Atlantis
: one well I got to the boss named Atlantis
: Rex and I must ask is he even possible to
: beat? Maybe he would be beatable if only his
: earthquake attack didn't cause you to always
: cower. Making matters worse Atlantis Rex
: always seems to go first and the ally Isod
: has is almost completely useless. You can't
: tell him what to do, he never heals when
: needed and always does the stupidest things
: in battle. Is there anyway to beat this guy?
: Do you even really need to beat him at all?
: Are all the other areas in this dungeon and
: the one on the left side this ridiculously
: hard. Is it absolutely necessary to beat
: every area in both these dungeons or just
: one or even any at all to advance through
: the game or can you skip thorugh these
: insanely hard puzzles and battles. If it is
: absolutely necessary to do these than that
: is something you should change in your next
: version. I've really loved the game up to
: this point but this House by the Lake
: Dungeon is just way too frustrating and
: seemingly impossible that if it is
: absolutely necessary to beat these and it's
: not changed in the next version I think I'll
: give up now. And that would really be a
: shame to ruin what is otherwise such a great
: game by making a part of the game have such
: insanely hard puzzles and boss battles.
