I don't think there IS a motivation. I just think that is all Square knows how to DO, anymore...is piss off it's fanbase. At least, the old-schoolers like me.
Look at the way they give FF the ROYAL TREATMENT and DW/DQ the shit-on-a-stick treatment. That pisses ME off.
Like I say, I'm not sure if it is an intent...it just is that Square knows how to do nothing else.
