but, in Hydlide, you still use menu's to equip your weapons/armor, atc. so, it's halfway there....and the way it plays, well, I just like it and that's it.
Surprisingly (probably to you) Zelda never was a favorite of mine...too much hype.
I enjoyed The Guardian Legend, although that one is also an example of something more a shooter than an RPG.
But that was even more-so a shooter than Hydlide...Hydlide had JUST ENOUGH of the aspects I like to still be considered an RPG first, and shooter second.
And it isn't that I like unpopular stuff, or that I am a rebel....BUT EVERYONE ELSE SURE AS HELL IS A FREAKING HYPE ZOMBIE!!!
Let's have a look at some of what I like...and tell me if it is "unpopular"
Metroid, Guardian Legend, Hydlide, DW/DQ, FF1 ONLY, Phantasy Star....a lot of this WAS pretty popular...maybe not with dumb-assed, hype-driven American dumbasses...but was still quite popular.
Just that hype-driven, can't-think-for-themselves American retards didn't like the games because they were TOLD to like other games instead. TOLD to do so by corporate media.
Let's face it the average American teenager nowadays isn't even intelligent enough to make freaking CHANGE without a computer telling them exactly how much to give!! and try having the change come up, say, $4.52...hand them another dollar bill now, so that you will get a five-dollar bill instead of four ones, and you just confused the shit out of the American, because Americans are intelligence-challenged.
And I'm not TRYING to get my favorite series any extra love, I'm trying to explain WHY my favorites don't get any love...AND IT IS BECAUSE AMERICANS ARE STUPID...AND CAN'T THINK FOR THEMSELVES...AND GOT NO TASTE...AND ARE TOTALLY HYPE-DRIVEN ZOMBIES.
P.S. I AM an American. The last of the potentially intelligent Americans. I have totally given up on "Generation Y." They are utterly useless.
just as an example of how STUPID Americans are...maybe you heard about the woman in NYC, recently?? The one who had her nose shoved so far into her cell phone, texting...THAT SHE WALKED RIGHT INTO A FREAKING OPEN MANHOLE!!! I'm sorry, but that's an example of the intelligence level of the modern-generation American, and I plain give up. Americans are stupid, and there is no way we maintain our world superiority anymore. This generation, Generation Y...is going to fail us in every possible way.

: DW/DQ, Phantasy Star, and Hydlide. That's
: it. The rest of it sucks, mostly.
:
: Let me clarify. For me, it only qualifies
: as RPG if it is menu-driven and turn-based.
:
: ...those statements *entirely* cancel each
: other out. Hydlide isn't "menu-driven
: and turn-based"; it's a Zelda/Ys-like
: game. So by your definition, it's not an
: RPG. Um... what?
:
: Also, can you elaborate on just *why*
: everything else "sucks", or is
: this purely an "I'm a rebel, I like
: unpopular stuff, and everyone else is just a
: hype zombie!!!" rant?
:
: And do note that I've *never* been pressured
: by hype to buy a game. My first RPG was DW1.
: Then I played FF1. The NES wasn't exactly a
: haven for RPGs, as you know. I also owned
: DW4, but regrettably could never find copies
: of 2 and 3 (though I later played both on
: emulator). I loved them. Moving to SNES,
: FFMQ was my first RPG on that, followed not
: long afterwards by 4, and then almost
: *immediately* afterwards, 6. I also liked
: the Breath of Fire series, the Lufia series,
: Earthbound, Paladin's Quest... and so on.
: The DW series, sadly, never made it to our
: shores on the SNES. A shame, really; 5 was
: great, and while the flaws of 6 repulse me
: *now*, I'd have played it to death back
: then. Needless to say, I ended up kinda
: forgetting about the series. The lukewarm
: reception 7 got (combined with thoroughly
: mediocre reviews from my friends who *did*
: play it) kept me from getting it.
:
: As for the much-hated FF7... it was an
: entirely natural "next step". I
: loved FF1, 4, and 6, and FF7 looked awesome
: to me -- hype or not -- and it did not
: disappoint. Amazingly, however, it wasn't
: FF7 alone that sold me on getting a PSX.
: Wild Arms sealed the deal nicely. I also
: *love* SaGa Frontier, easily one of the most
: (unfairly) hated games of all time. I could
: continue into my history of RPGs, but I see
: little point. Bottom line is, I'm no hype
: zombie, nor do (as I once did) I actively
: lobby *against* hyped-up games. While I
: *like* the DW games for what they are, it's
: just not my favorite series... but if it'll
: make you feel better, Final Fantasy isn't my
: favorite series, either.
:
: Final note: Calling everyone
: "stupid" for not liking the same
: things as you do will *not* get your
: favorite series any extra love.
