Actually, when I first learned about the game in college, it wasn't from anyone in the "obscure/cult-gamer circles. Also, a quick search of EBay turned up 50 hits for "The Guardian Legend". Perhaps it's hard to find in brick-and-mortar stores, but honestly, I'm not aware of any save a few specialized shops which even carry NES games.
A game having fifty active auctions instead of 1000 active ebay auctions hardly qualifies it as "impossible to find".

I'm not even sure where to start with this. Are you really trying to suggest that nobody died in a tragic but avoidable way before 1990?
