I've been trying to stay away from GameFAQs as as possible with this one... I completed virtually everything* in the DQ4 remake without a FAQ, including the New Town subquest and collecting enough Tiny Medals to get all the prizes. I was pretty proud of myself and am hoping to repeat that performance. 
Does your choice of wife actually affect your children's stats, or is it just a cosmetic difference?

*- (Embarrassingly, I got stumped finding the entrance to the bonus dungeon. In my defense: somehow I had gotten the idea that it was tied to the optional, mutiplayer-requiring part of the new town, and therefore wanted to make sure that it was possible for me to access before I spent too much time on it.)
