Not to mention that, at least in the SNES original, the game *really* wants you to marry Bianca. If you don't, the game *really* heaps on the guilt. Bianca's father dies, Bianca is forced to work as a barmaid, and Flora's (Nera, in the DS version) boyfriend, who risked his life in the volcano trying to get the ring, is left out in the cold. Moreover, I've heard Flora/Nera starts at level 1, and even levelled up, is nigh-useless in battle. Seriously, why did they *bother*?
