Your coverage of the Fort Hood shooting was, at best, irresponsible this evening. Your hosts allowed unsubstantiated rumors and fabrication to rule what is tragic situation. KMBZ callers were repeatedly allowed unrestrained, unquestioned access to spread outright lies and hatred toward Muslims. Scott Parks, Mike Shanin, and Darla Jaye did not question the callers and the information. They let the lies stand without even a simple, "Where did you get that?" or, "What is the news organization reporting this?"
A simple official source would have sufficed. It didn't happened. Several callers made up stories about multiple shooters as well as what those multiple shooters were saying.
"It was four Muslims and they were shouting 'Allah, Allah,'" said one caller. Darla Jaye didn't even blink an eye. Darla said, "Yeah. Islam - the religion of peace." She then said, "The mainstream media will cover up what happened here today."
This is insane and totally unacceptable. I use to have respect for one of the best news organizations in Kansas City. We now see it's been reduced to nothing but a shell of its former self. Shame, KMBZ. Shame.
We expected better.
