Posted by Holden's Lair Earlier this year in Baltimore the night before peforming a house concert at Holden's Lair, with a couple more years of performances under her belt, she did it again - capturing a dingy alt-rock bar on the wrong side of the tracks with vocals that just blew everyone away. The disintested dull roar of the open mic crowd ended a few seconds into Kristin's first song, and everyone turned to stare at the girl from out of town. She held them in her hands for each song of her too-short set, belting out lines from "The Conan song" and "Someone Else's Arms" as if her life depended on it. We miss you, Kristin. Please come back.

Ever since the first time I saw Kristin play back at a dingy bar called Mac's, backed by a creaky cello and her own simple, still raw, but commanding acoustic guitar style, I knew she had what it takes. I've seen hundreds of singer/songwriters over the last several years, and none have ever grabbed me by the throat and sent shivers down my spine like Kristin Plater at her best does. With her 2nd person narrative "The Stalker Song" and her ode to misfits everywhere "Disestablishmentarianism," she proved what an adept songwriter she is. And, man, what a voice.
