I have a 1980 L-82 freshly rebuilt with 9:1 pistons, RV cam, Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock 1406 600cfm 4bbl carb, Hedman Headers, and an Accel HEI setup on it. I have the timing set at 8 btdc without the vacuum advance hooked up. If I advance it anymore or hook up the vacuum advance, it spark knocks. I have 3:73 rear end and a 3 spd Torque-flight trans also. For some reason I am getting between 8.5 and 10mpg. Can anyone think of anything I can try to get better mileage? Whether I drive like a little old lady or I am pulling 8000 lbs on a trailer, it gets the same mileage. By the way, it is in an International Scout. Thank you.
