Posted by Paul Ipolito 2. The VIN configuration did change in 1981.According to the NCRS manual Page 17, the eigth position identifies the engine. For 1981 "6" represents the L-81, 190 hp. The Corvette Black Book also verifies there was no L-82 made in 1981 When was your car built? Was it early in the production run? Was it built in St.louis or Bowling Green? Hi Trey- The best source of information is the NCRS technical manual for 1980-1982 Corvettes. Here is the solution to your mystery:
1. There were no optional engines available in 1981.The only engine was a 190 HP L-81
