Well, I hope your church is more receptive than mine. The first and last time I brought taggers to a picnic, all the fuddy-duddies complained about "the guns". This isn't true across the board, of course. It's too bad my church had to be like that, though.
And yeah, once the initial bite of the purchase is out of the way, upkeep is pretty low, 'cus batteries last a good long time.
