K. Did a search here for DEET-no hits so I s'pose this hasn't been addressed.
Bugs are bad but DEET can be worse if you grab yer plastic tagger w/freshly sprayed hands/arms. Especially that 30% stuff. Melts and smears all kinds of plastic.
However, up to now, DEET was the only thing for serious bugs. Or roasting in long sleeves. Or a ghillie suit, you crazies
Picaridin turns out to be a good substitute: 7% Picaridin spray works the same as 7% DEET. In the USA, 7% seems the current max as it's new here, but it's been used overseas at higher percent for ages.
It doesn't melt plastic, and it doesn't feel all sizzly in the sun either. Only place I've found it so far is in Cutter Advanced. Been getting it at H0me Dep0t.
If we're talking serious bugs, 7% will keep 'em off me for 'bout half an hour. Longer if you hose yerself down w/it. Usually the bugs are not so severe and it'll last a good hr.
