Zook,
The motivation for the V-206 Maverick was more than just the great looks of the package. I wanted to use a Firestorm when the CTDYNE group gets together for an event. Unfortunately the ergonomics of the Firestorm housing are about the worst of any tagger I have ever used. The pistol grip is too small for my hands and it is placed at the very aft end, so all the weight of the tagger is very unbalanced. This makes it very difficult/uncomfortable to use the tagger as you would a side arm. If you try to actually use the built in red dot sight, you typically must pull the tagger close to your eye. Unfortunately the Firestorm has no stock, so you end up holding it with both arms in kind of a quasi rifle position with semi outstretched arms. Not only is this very fatiguing, it also can lead to inaccuracy, especially for long range engagements.
Over the years I have looked into the possibility of adding a stock and a telescopic rifle scope to the Firestorm. The package is just so organic, that I have never been able to come up with a design to add ether accessory with out a major overhaul to the original housing. In the end, I would still have this unbalanced, and in my opinion, ugly tagger, so I chose to build my own from scratch. That is how the L.A.C.S.R. came to be.
One of the design parameters for the Maverick was to mount the grip as far forward as possible. I find that I am much less fatigued when using a tagger with a neutral or slightly rearward weight bias. Also, this design lends itself to a short overall length that still has a full size stock. That is one reason many of the custom taggers from CTDYNE are of the bullpup design. It works well and it looks very trick if done right.
