I have to agree with Greg.
Take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt as I can only go by what people have told me (heresay) and I have no personal experience with the gear.
Every pro grade gear set out there has its good points and its bad points. Even my favorite gear, Steradian has a tendency to break down.
The thing is that even thou some people will swear at Steradian gear, there are just as many that will swear by them.
The problem I have with BFS gear is that I have had many people approach us looking for a better solution. I've heard of complaints ranging from the gear being too heavy, innconsistant range, to them being very high maintenance and the shipping to another country (no longer a problem) to get them fixed very expensive. Many people have also told me that BFS goes from friendly to rude once you actually purchase the gear. Remember this is what people told me, personally Peter from BFS has been nothing but supportive to with us.
What I'm getting at is that I've never heard anyone say something good about the gear. Chances are that I've just not been in the right circles to meet people that do swear by the gear. I would just think that after 5 years of running 1SourceLaserTag.com, and talking to many different vendors and commercial gear owners, I would have stumbled across a few of them by now.
Buying from BFS new can be advantagous as you get alot more then gear from the company, they have a whole business and marketing help package that comes along with the gear. Its why currently they have more fields around the world than any other company can claim ( although that may change in the next few years). But buying used gear which BFS may or may not even support (pretty sure they are no longer under warrenty), you can expect ALOT of maintenance problems.
Finally, the other problem with the gear is that it is most likely the old BFS system (could be wrong) which is pretty much just WoW compatible. If you want the abilities that are capable even in consumer grade gear these days, then your money would be not so well spent.
Now if the guy went down to $400 a gun, then you could buy them, rip out the BFS electronics and put in some DIY MilesTag electronics, then it would be worth the effort. You are pretty much just buying a nice heavy duty gun shell with pre-alligned optics and built in speaker and battery positions. Granted the guns are heavy, but they feel nice in the hand and they have a unique enough look that they generally are not mistaken for a real gun once up close.
Anyway, that is my 1 cent worth.
