Okay, I know I am jumping the gun as I am sure that he will post this here, but I got so excited, I couldn't hold back.
Dave Roman posted on the TagFest NW Yahoo site the following:
"Okay, I've found a great new location for TagFest. The only
problem is that it is going to require a bit of build up as it
currently has no restroom sleeping facilities - although it is on
the edge of Eugene so getting hotels/motels would not be an issue.
Nor would going for food. Actually its about 40 minutes from our
house so people could crash there as well. This place is an old
private paintball ranch. There is a speedball area, there is a
small town area, a fort area, and an assault hill area. This would
allow us all types of games. At this point the owner of the
property says we can use it for free as long as everyone signs a "I
promise not to sue for any reason" log. I would have to pay for a
few buck restrooms as I said, there are NO facilities. No picnic
benches or anything either at this point and the road to get out
there is a bit rough. Also, there are some safety issues since the
barracades are made out of plywood with nails and were not sealed.
So here is pro/con list
PROs
- several pre-made blockered areas including small buildings.
- close to our home so we can put some extra work into the place and
make better plans leading up to the event
- closeness will make bringing setup alot easier.
- blocker areas are mega cool!
- All kinds of motels/hotels within a quick drive
- All kinds of restaraunts in close proximity
- NO RENTAL FEE! - well other than for installing bucks
- Alot more tree'd area with no restrictions to stay on trails
CONS
- Closest Airport is Eugene (20 mins from field of play)
- No "on-site" sleeping facilities
- Currently no Dining area (I'll be working on that)
- Needs major attention to safety
- No park/or any other kind of insurance if anyone gets hurt
- Wild / Rugged area - more bugs, and possible animal experiences
(including raccons, snakes, skunks, deer, and a very very very small
chance of cougars and black bears)
- May have to contend with ATV's using nearby roads and trails, and
posibility of paintballers trying to use area while we are playing
(unlikely but possible)."
