well .. from what I can dig up.. LC uses for it's basic tag "signature" is a basic 38kHz carrier (assumed) and a sub carrier of 250Hz .. the length of the signature is un-determined as I can't get clear answer.
I suspect the older V1/V2 vest doesn't care too much.. the newer gear is probably more "picky" as to a more strict over-all signature length
And if you examine the BASIC LTAG/SOLO tag from Hasbro, the preamble is 3ms/6ms/3ms.. followed by 7 more pulses of 2ms off, 2ms on.. (4ms interval).
And 4ms interval works into 1 second 250 times 1/0.004=250Hz
250hz the sub carrier of LC... this is why an LTTO LTAG / LTX SOLO tag works on many (apparently not ALL) of LC vest.
I've seen the length of an LC tag to be documented at 150ms to 180ms .. and the LTTO tag last under 50ms (of which the preamble is about 10ms of that)... so the 250Hz sub carrier LIKE portion of the LTAG/SOLO tag is about 35ms long (fairly short).
Also a teamless beacon is similar.
The "Magic" mod for the TMB (TMB->LC) is probably just a switch to disable the beacon (IR-output) so LC players with older vest don't get "hit" by the TMB's beacon. Why still able to receive tags and send them.
I think the mystery (the magic) behind LTTO/LTX gear working with LC has been revealed.
I suspect that the Shot Blast might work better (as it's two LTTO/LTX tags close together) over single LTTO tags as-well-as triggering the newer vest into (wrongly) accepting a "Shot Blast" tag from the LTX...
That said, since the newer vest are .. newer, I suspect they probably reject LTTO tags as LC tags better.
after thinking about it.. that's my 2 cents (and I think I'll stir up some comments.. probably even from the TagFerret master himself)!
