Matt,
There are a wide variety of Laser Challenge products out there, as the brand has made it a point to continue to be "backwards compatible" for basic functions as far back as the original release that ToyMaxx made in 1996. So there are some vests out there that have a gun attached to them via a tethered cord. However, in our experience, newer Laser Challenge Products are more picky about the signals they accept. I should STRESS that the only systems that we have confirmed a 100% hit ratio on have been Laser Challenge Team Force, Laser Challenge Team Force 2000, and Laser Challenge V2. Newer systems like Radar Extreme, Xtreme Target, and others have not proven to function the same or even accept the signal at all.
Also, I would like to point out that the modified TMB that we use didn't "ruin" the tagger. Installation of a simple Toggle switch to the cord that needs to be cut allows the beacon to be turned off for Laser Challenge matches and turned on for use with LTTO/LTX games. Not to mention that it's simply more aesthetically pleasing/professional looking to have a toggle switch on the gun than to cover the red dome in tape for LC Matches and have to remove it all for LTTO Matches.
