Tagfest PageI've been avoiding posting anything yet as I wanted to see what other people attending the event had to say before I gave any of my own opinions on the event. I'll answer this since no one else has yet.
The ground was a bit moist since we had light sprinkles each morning before players showed up. We couldn't have asked for better weather. It was overcast with the sun showing its self for a couple minute from time to time. The cloud cover and a light breeze kept the playing area fresh and cool but not cold. Overcast skys added to gear range making the TMBs lethal in the right hands (and there were several of those around). I don't believe we had any mud accumulation on anything. Luckily the real rain waited till Sunday after we had everything packed and ready to go...and then the skys opened up. God must love a good LT game!
There were patches of poison oak around the playing field, but weeks of advance spraying and removal of any spurts from main playing areas left the event without any rash casualties - at least that I'm aware of.
I was a bit worried about tick populations as the work crews from the weeks before did find a few crawling on them - but none attached. I don't know if it was the mowing and raking of the area and spraying of the poison oak that made the vermin vacate the playing areas, or the cool weather that chased them into hiding; but, also to my knowledge - there were no tick episodes during the event.
We will be visiting the site regularly the rest of the year removing the poison oak from the site and clearing other playing areas that have been overtaken by blackberry vine and thistle weeds. It is my intension to give the area a dusting of seven dust to reduce tick and other pest populations.
We didn't really see any mosquitos - although this is most likely due to the cooler then normal temperatures. I saw my first mosquito of the year just the a night or two ago as temperatures have warmed up a bit.
