Now that you mention it, the base could serve as a neat home for something like that. I would just need to make sure that if TagFest MidWest would generate a lot of attendees that we would be allowed to host an event like that there.
The base is currently being used by several other local groups. A dog companion training group, the North Omaha Boxing League, and 1 or 2 local Labor Unions. If we were to do an all day thing at the base, I don't know if we would be interfering with whats going on there. Since we do play normally at night there, it's never really a problem. I would need to get in touch with the landlord of the place.
Lazerbait: I think the "problem" of or LC gear is a minor one. Not only could we probably pull off some kind of LTTO game depending on how much gear participants bring, but I've also been getting more involved with a laser tag business that a local friend runs. They use a form of MilesTag gear that would have no problems operating in the daylight. In fact, it's because of him that I discovered the base that we're playing at now and my first game played there was with his gear.
Even if the base does turn out to be a bad place to host an all-day event, I still think something TagFest-esque could be pulled off here in good ol' Omaha, Nebraska. I remember throwing around ideas of TagCon Midwest that had previously fallen through with the Lafayette Lasers and such. We could probably generate some crowd from that event if we got in touch with the right people.
As for a park to play at, the OLCA's Home at Mission Park West isn't a bad location, but I get the feeling that I might have an even better location to suggest in the near future. That friend of mine who runs the LT business has been working on purchasing an impressive piece of land that he would plan on using as a full-time place for hosting his games. As of now, he travels to locations and brings the gear as opposed to having it all at one place. I can't guarentee it, but I think that could be an option too.
