CUSTOM CTDYNE LENS ASSEMBLY
Here are nine images of the lens assembly for one of the current projects at CTDYNE. I thought I would share these images to give board users some idea of the work that goes into a CTDYNE custom lens assembly.
This particular assembly is designed around a two inch lens with optical properties that allow a very short focal length. This lens is made from poly materials that are 92% efficient at passing light in the near infrared spectrum. This, along with other design features gives the lens very low aspheric absorption characteristics.
The infrared LED array is comprised of three TSAL-6100 IR LED’s. Each one to be driven at just under one amp by a Duncan designed booster board.
The lens is held at the proper focal length by means of four button head cap screws on the forward side and an aluminum shoulder on the aft side. The lens tube, LED bulkhead, aft bulkhead and lens shoulder are fabricated from 6061 aluminum.
Image descriptions as follows:
A. All three IR LED’s have been tested, insulated and are ready to be assembled into the wiring harness.
B. The IR LED's assembled and ready for install into the LED bulkhead.
C. IR LED’s in their new home. Notice the 4-40 mounting holes in the edges of the LED bulkhead.
D. Aft view showing wiring harness and cable clamp to act as strain relief.
E. Subassemblies ready for installation.
F. Muzzle view showing the IR LED bulkhead in place. Also note the aluminum shoulder that acts as the rear stop for the lens. This sets the proper focal length.
G. Lens in place. Retained by four 4-40 button head cap screws.
H. Side/rear view showing the aft bulkhead and wiring harness exit. Note the fasteners along the outside fastening the two bulkheads and lens in place.
I. Completed lens assembly (less paint and detailing) securely fastened in place on project ECM. For a two inch lens, this is an extremely compact and lightweight assembly. Attributes that were absolutely necessary per the specifications called out on this project.
