Hi John,
I prefer aluminum and plastic over wood or other materials. I find both materials easy to work with, providing you have the proper tools.
I usually must machine the detail parts for use on CTDYNE custom taggers. Occasionally I am able to locate material that fits with very little machining. I try to use materials that will fit with the least amount of work, that still meet the design specs for a given project.
The ECM is being constructed for Matt. His requirement for this project is for the lens assembly to be optimized for long range encounters. This means the beam is as narrow as I can make it. The fact that there are three IR LED's in this lens assembly does help provide extra width to the down range infrared light projection but, it is still a rather narrow pattern.
To compensate for this deficiency at close ranges, the ECM will be equipped an additional three TSAL-6100 IR array that will not have a lens in front of it. This close quarter battle mode option will also be driven by the Duncan designed booster board. It can be selected by a slide switch, and activated by the main trigger. The C.Q.B. mode will not be effective at ranges over approximately 40 feet. At anything under 40" it should be capable of outstanding performance.
