Fight Night 8
5th Annual Independence Eve Blast
Cookout: 6pm
Games: 7:30
Game 1: Team Elimination
Team Captains: Ninja Haro & Sundawg
After getting the new players up to speed with the games once we were done feasting on our cookout, we started off old school with a Team Elimination Game. This was also the first time we used Team ID badges. With Sundawg's Team wearing Blue arm bands and Ninja Haro's Team in Red Arm Bands, we set out on an epic game. Blue Team was on Attack with Red Team Defending. On Blue Team, we split up into a weak Western attack and a strong Eastern attack. Our Western attack was comprised of myself, Sundawg, and Brian and Greg of Ralston (some of our new players). The rest would follow SolidSnake through the Eastern Walk. Our group advanced south on the Western Walk with no problems. As we swept and cleared through the Western Walk, the Slipzone, the Bridge of Death, and the Flank, we came to the realization that the entire Defense Team must have gone north on the Eastern Walk. Sure enough, as we approached the Fort we could see some of their players going north. With their backs exposed and their team oblivious to our presence, Brian, Greg, and I moved to intervene in the ensuing battle. We took out several of their bewildered teammates. Their attacks shifted south towards us and we started taking hits. Greg, Brian, and I fell back into cover with Sundawg providing long-range support. Ninja Haro came down with blast shields ready and did a number on us, but he only managed to take Brian down with him. Greg and I managed to handle Ninja Haro once his Blast Shields were spent with a little help from our Max Blasts, trimming his hits down to nothing. We regrouped and continued our trek north on the Eastern walk. We met more resistance and fell back to the safety of the Fort again. After finding German (who had cut his way through the middle of the park) and a few other stragglers of our Attacking Team, we moved north again on the Eastern Walk. They were pretty well dug in so Greg and I ran north in an attempt to snuff them out. They got me, but Greg, Sundawg, and the rest of my team stuck with it to take them out. Blue Team gets the win!
Game 2: CTF
Team Captains:Bazookafied & FirestormCamo
My Team was Blue again taking the Flag Defense Side. FirestormCamo's team was red and on the Capture Team. I handed out radios to our team and set up intel along the East and West, with myself and a few extras holding out in the middle. The other radios would check in with me and report where they had trouble and I would direct our extra players to those spots. At least, that was the plan. Right off the bat, along the Eastern Side, Tanner broke through our Eastern Defense and grabbed and moved the Flag. Not far, but it was enough to shake up our defense and realize the Red Team was playing to win and win quickly. We regrouped both sides and held off more of the attacks. Somewhere along the way they sent in a huge team running from the East. Their plan? To move the flag along with multiple players like a relay race. As the initial Flag Carrier got hit, he would set it down with another player of his picking it up. There was a big problem with their plan though: our Defense on the West wasn hovering around the Bridge of Death that they tried to make their escape on. We were hitting them every second and they only managed to get the Flag to the end of the bridge. Technically, I don't think they should've gotten it that far, since some of the players were getting hit and didn't immediately put it down in their frenzied plan. Nevertheless, this killed much of their energy and forced them back to their Respawn on the other end of the park. Our Defense regrouped again and our good friend Eleri at'Xalien showed up. With Sundawg, Eleri, and Snake watching over the Flag, I took a group of our other players North on the Eastern Walk to bring the fight to them. We hid in the middle of the park waiting to ambush them if they did manage to grab the flag and make it further north. However, Red Team Players were getting Spawn Killed thanks to Eleri's addition to our team, as well as several Red Team players who decided to quit. Things broke down and FirestormCamo forfieted the game since there was "No way to win". Obviously we need to make the Capture Team's respawn point less succeptable to attack. I didn't know about the Red Team's personell problems until the end of the game, but I would've gladly given them Eleri to help even things out. Oh well, another win for the Blue Team!
Game 3: Team Elimination
Team Captains: SolidSnake & I don't remember lol
At the start of Game 2, I was confronted by some local 10 year olds who wanted to play. I told them to wait until the end of this one to get into the next game. They followed us around the park asking if they could play yet, so Game 3 was their chance. I geared them up and got them onto teams. I was getting quite tired and decided I would lead a suicide attack with them (since kids usually like that stuff). We were on the Attack Team (Blue again I think) and we were accompanied by Extremo and Eric P in a blazing attack of infrared doom. We took a few people out but mainly got eaten up by SolidSnake and Tanner hiding in the shadows. I'm glad I chose to do this, since shortly afterwards, they told me it was time for them to go home. So the lot of us dead people went back and de-geared them and sent them home. They played a little free for all game on the trek back, so it was fun to see them have a little more fun before they left. I have no idea what ACTUALLY happened during this game, so anyone who wants to chime in about how it went down: feel free! I don't even think a team won, because I strongly remember sending some battle-thirsty Zombies into the park to clean things up.
Overall: We had a great couple of games. I would've liked to have another game, but that 30 minute CTF game along with the two Team Elimination Games took up a lot of time. I think it's easier to get 4 games in when we do a Disarm Game since those usually go much faster. In any case, it was good food, good games, decent weather (nice but a bit humid) and another OLCA Tradition gone right. I think we hooked some of the new players too and I'm hoping they come back for the rest of our games.
No-one took game pictures, but I think Sundawg has a few from the cookout and a group shot of the lot of us.
