There is an issue with the game software. It seems that this weeks update to the Malicious Software List from Microsoft did something to lock up the program. I was not able to run games much, and none of them away from my house. One thing that I liked was that you could set up the game and start in manually - the 5 second countdown would not start until player one pulls the trigger on his T-Blaster. It keeps reminding you every 15 seconds to pull the trigger.
The banter only comes from the PC, and you can select a lowered/muted volume for it. There is a grunt when you are hit, a shot when you firing, and a few other canned phrases and warnings like "Press the trigger to start the game." and "Game Over". You can also set the gun FX volume, and IR Power Level.
I can't say for sure what the real world distance on a single receiver might be. I was able to walk 4 houses (about 250-300 feet) in any direction before the gun announced I was out of range, but the base was inside the house.
The CD is not required to play: it can be installed and moved on.
There are 8 games that come with the system, and a few more that you can unlock with the medibox expansion. Most of the games are variations of the basic elimination game.
One a game is started, no one else can join. You can drop out by walking out of range or turning off your tagger. You will still be in the game if your sensor vest comes unplugged, but it will announce to everyone every 5 seconds that you need to reattach your sensor vest.
The software remembers that last player profile assigned to the tagger. Anyone with a tagger on when the game is being started will be brought into the game, unless removed manually. I only have two taggers at the moment, so I can't say how easy it is to exclude a tagger.
Respawning depends on the game selected. You can either respawn automatically, respawn at a MediBox, or respawn by shooting the UbiConnect(TM). The number of respawns allowed is set by the software, as well as how many health points per life. There is also an unlimited health option so that games can be based on time only.
There is no hit confirmation on the shooters end. The player that was tagged will have their vest light up for a moment, the tagger will vibrate, and the Grunt sound will play.
