The symptoms really weren't consistant with a bad switch so I have continued testing before taking anything apart. This morning I figured out what many of you likely already knew.
The missile requires an ~2 second time delay between launch and impact before responding to the impact switch signal.
There is one exception with of one of my "grenades" which fires immediately upon a tap. I like this capability with the old code TMB where you can raise the shields and then toss the grenade in a close-in situation.
I'm thinking the 2 second delay must be a firmware feature to minimize self inflicted missile tags form a close-in impact. The ~2 seconds delay would require a missile flight of ~20+ feet through the air.
I believe I read from Brian that there is only one code version for the missile so I do not know why I'm seeing this difference in the one of my four missiles. Also, there is a YouTube video of the TMB where the guy fires the missile into the wall of his small room and takes hits which isn't consistant with the 2 second delay theory but mire like my one favorite grenade. So perhaps there are two versions of the missile, whether it be hardware or firmware, or something else is going on that I don't understand.
Thanks, Glenn
