So I spoke with the modder today and he sowed me the three pictures he took mid process on his phone. He said he would upload them to the facebook site in the near future. From what I saw, he removed the entire recoil hammer. He cut a larger hole in the back where the recoil hammer used to be and used two screws, one from above and one from below, to attach the M4 buffer tube directly on to the Phoenix. The tape is actually there because one of the screws is sticking out and can scratch the user pretty easily if not covered up. The top rail was also attached with two screws straight into the top of the gun. The entire mod seems rather spartan to me, but I'm certainly no expert on these things.
