I don't consider myself tech savy, but I have looked at the sensor issue alot (lots of help from Andy and TF). I don't think you want to use tsops when all you need are two 50 cent photodiodes from Digikey and they drop right in. You would tether a line from the gun to the headset/photodiodes, just like the "good" ESS taggers have.

Last Thursday at the Chat session, TagFerret said he would check out the Digikey part (it's very close to what LTTO is using now, but he wants to be sure it's a good replacement).

If it turns out it is not a good replacement, we can order the exact photodiode LTTO uses, but the place that carries them has a $250 minimum order. I'm willing to put up $60 at $1.00 for each (2x what Digikey charges for the similar part). David Roman would place the order if we can get enough interest. Most of this can be found in another post, but I guess I just can't pass up a chance to mention it again.

For 2 sensors (front/back) you could literally take 2 photodiodes, velcro/glue them to your hat/headband/ESS tower/FXonics tower/anything you want ; then attach two wires to the bottom of your Drone or TMB and you would have working extra sensors. Obviously no one wants wires stuck in the bottom of their tagger, just to pull out when you have your first snag, but this does illustrate just how simple it is. I think I will have to come up with a thoughtful series of poll questions and see what people are willing to pay and how much they are willing to do to make their own sensors.
