2.5 Year Old Wheaton Terrier.... Do's and Dont's ??

Hi,
My wife and I have just bought a recued 2 and a half year old Wheaton Terrier and we have a couple of issues.
1) What's the best way of calming the dog down before/during travellin in a car?
2) What would be the best food?
3) Any other hints of tips?
