i don`t own a terrier, but i do have beagles. one loves the car and will do anyhting for a ride. the other gets nervous and car sick. i have considered buying her one of those doggie seat belts because it seems a lot of her problem is trying to run around in the car while its moving, if i accelerate or brake she goes flying. so as of now, she doesn`t go in the car, but if i were to try it again, i would get a seat belt for her so she would feel more secure. the other dog has no problem and is very calm in the car, although i am still considering a seat belt because if we were to wreck, i want her to be safe. all dogs respond to positive reinforcment. offer the dog a treat when it gets in the car. try just getting him in the car without it moving anywhere and see how he acts. let him sniff around and investigate, just to familiarize himself with the car and get comfortable with the environment of it first and then try taking him for very short rides and being really positive and praise him and give him lots of treats for acting good. don`t drive the car until he seems comfortable with being in the car. this is also a good way to teach him commands in the car. dogs like to crawl into your lap and various other distracting things while you are driving down the road. so best to teach them car commands before you are driving.
