Just a reminder that the big 3 1/2-day joint convention of the Thousand Lakes Region of the NMRA and the Chicago & North Western Historical Society is May 19-22 at the Hanford Inn in Mason City, Iowa. There will be tours of rail yards, industries and a Rock Island roundhouse, trolley rides, an excursion on a Union Pacific Operation Lifesaver train May 21, model and photo contests for both groups, modeling clinics and historical presentations/slide shows, including one on Decker Meats by Doug Harding (author of the two-part series in Railroad Model Craftsman in the fall of 2004), annual meetings, a memorabilia auction Saturday night after the big banquet, awards, door prizes, a 65-table Sunday morning flea Market open to the public 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for $3 and a Friday night reception.
Registration is available at the door. Full convention package is about $120-$125 and includes a Thursday night reception, Friday night light meal reception, Saturday banquet and Sunday awards breakfast.
