Posted by TD on 7/31/2002, 2:56 pm Of about 15 members contacted, only three showed strong interest in attending, another would attend but he had to work, and two others had a lukewarm response. Based on the fact that only about 20 percent of the club seems interested, I won't be pursuing the planning of this event. Maybe more will be fired up for it next year. I think many are holding out a slim hope that the Hudson live steamers trip we've talked about for two summers will still take place this summer. I haven't heard of any progress being made on planning that, though. However, I do encourage any member who wants to visit Currie on their own, to do so. It is well worth the low (about $3) admission price. Currie is located about 12 miles south of Tracy on Highway 30. It is open Saturday and Sunday 1-5 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There also are weekday hours. If you are looking for more depots in that area, there is also a small pioneer village/railroad museum at Tracy with a steam engine and a depot (I think the depot is actually a C&NW depot from Volga, S.D.) Westbrook, Minn., about 12 miles east of Currie on Hwy. 30 has a restored C&NW depot serving as a museum (but it is not open very often.) Fulda, Minn, about 14 miles south of Currie on Hwy. 59, has a Milwaukee Road depot that serves as a museum and antique shop. It is open weekends. There is a depot in a pioneer village museum on the south edge of Mountain Lake, just north of Hwy. 60, about 33 miles east of Fulda. It should be open most weekends at least through Labor Day.
Dear fellow LLRC members:
The results of my inquiry about interest in the club having a summer outing to the Currie, Minn. railroad museum on Aug. 24, in conjunction with the Minnesota River Valley Division of NMRA are in. The museum as a C&NW depot, handpushed turntable, two-stall enginehouse with inside displays, a motor car, a small diesel switcher, a caboose, a steam engine, a small train ride, a replica coal bunker, water tower, section foreman's house, general store, church and school. All are very well kept.
Good Luck on your hunt for depots!
T. Davis
